jensen is in!

it's here!! yay!! the resort collection from peter jensen is on the racks (and in the window) and it's a breath of summery fresh air... peter jensen's iconic bunny is transformed into super cute shift dresses where the ears become halter neck ties, it's appliqued onto super sized silk tee's in white and red, printed onto tee shirt dresses with hitched bow tied details and finally adorning the sweetest little ballet flats around. there is also a gorgeous prim ivory dress with an asymmetric ruffle detail.

perfect timing for summer!! it's all so bloody adorable!! sometimes i hate being a boy...

available online soon.

take a hint

hint mag is a bit of a pioneer when it comes to online magazines, I remember reading it when I was a fashion deprived teen living in upper hutt... which was... well... a while ago now...

so imagine our excitement when we saw children of vision featured in hint mags 'shop tart' section, we just about wet ourselves... true story. the story goes on to mention the new chanel store in shanghai, so we're in pretty good company....

thanks hint!! we looooooove you!

press up's

the new 1am is out!! yay!! and as we were clicking our way through the mag we were very happy to see daniel palillo's 'sleeveless addams' dress featured in marissa findlay's shoot 'long exposure'. we love a nice long dress for summer here...

we have also heard rumours that 1am may be back in print next year, so we may be able to enjoy flicking through the mag for real again soon... joy!

xmas gift idea #2

how about the gift of lurve for xmas?? (i think i just threw up a little bit in my mouth due to my own cheesyness!) but seriously, whilst giving a magazine to some for christmas may seem a little underwhelming this aint no woman's weekly. lurve magazine hails from germany and aims to stay well away from the mainstream, covering beautifully obscure people, fashion, art and music - issue 2 'hedonism' features interviews with bruno pieters and emerging international designers such rozalb de mura, christopher ross, and telfar. as well as editorials featuring wunderkind charles guislain, and bernhard willhelm styled by the late daul kim and the whole mag features fashion direction by one of our favourite bloggers zana from garbage dress.

it's a beautiful, collectable piece and an inspirational read (all printed on paper that is from recycled and renewable products no less!) and children of vision is currently the only stockist in australasia.

lurve magazine issue 2 is $45 + shipping

jensen-isms

we've had the word, peter jensen's resort spring/summer 10 collection has left the uk and is winging it's way to us as we speak. we are big fan's of jensen's quirky take on british buttoned up primness, one part demure, one part disarmingly cute. we'll post pics of the collection when it arrives, but in the mean time brush up on your peter jensen general knowledge with this very thorough interview with ponystep magazine entitled '77 peter jensen-isms', our favourites are:

2. peter’s best friend at school was lise lotte, who was cross-eyed and wore bigger glasses than he did.

15. peter was once stung by a jellyfish.

26. peter’s favourite danish pop group are shit & chanel, who were renamed after being taken to court, to shit & chalou.

47. peter’s biggest regret is not saying hello to vivienne westwood when he once saw her.

58. peter hopes that in ten years time from now he will still be doing what he does at present, but by then would be massively rich and own a summerhouse in sweden, as well as two pug dogs - one called thelma and one called olga - and would look fantastic and talk like posh women and say things like, ‘how silly!’

tee time

the humble tee is truly a cultural icon, from cladding a certain oh-so-sexy rebel without a cause, to katherine hamnet's supersized and slogan emblazoned tee's. they have been deconstructed, all but obliterated, mass produced and made luxurious, and they show no signs of going anywhere.

so we were very excited to hear about the mehr als ein t-shirt (more than a t-shirt) exhibition at the bielefelder kunstverein in germany that centers around the notion of the tee shirt as an artistic medium - featuring international artists, designers and fashion designers all contemplating and exploring the idea of the tee shirt through a variety of medium. one of our favourite labels postweiler hauber will present a video and 3 of the spray t-shirts from his “i love my t” ss07 collection, as well as a tapestry made out of t-shirts … he is joined by artists such as tracey emin and jenny holtzer, designers such as vivienne westwood and bless and many more.

sorry for all the next season teaser's but we had to share these beautiful pics from the super talented tommy ton from jak&jil blog fame of complexgeometries next collection due to drop february next year. the collection is amazing, and i think everyone here has ordered at least one piece for themselves... the sheet tee (top and middle pics) in particular was a personal fave!!

wall hanging

salvor projects is one of our favorite little discoveries, his drapey hand printed scarves and tunics have been a huge hit this season, and the designer ross menuez is an absolute sweet heart! so we were really excited to see a snaps of a beautiful poster run of images from salvor projects next season collection thanks to the lovely amanda at 'is mental' blog. the huge posters pasted up all over soho give you a little sneak peak of what's to come from salvor projects, it's due to hit stores january/february, and yes, we did order both of those pieces...

got your eyes on?

from the top, p.a.m 'eyes', geoff mcfetridge 'corbu', deanne cheuk 'gold fingers', p.a.m 'weiner'

to compliment our array of incredible, but alas slightly impractical hand fashioned cardboard sunglasses we decided it was time to get the real thing, and thankfully colab sunglasses have a similarly quirky vibe - and have just arrived instore today - yay!!

colab (as the name suggests) collaborate with guest artists each season, giving them complete and unfettered creative freedom - we have picked some goodies from p.a.m, deanne cheuk, and geoff mcfetridge.

each frame is one of a limited edition of 1000 throughout the world and individually numbered on the inside arm. all colab sunglasses comply with worldwide standards, regarding sunglare, ultra violet protection and strength against breakage. each pair comes in custom packaging featuring cleaning cloth, carry bag and other treats...

vaile of (not so) secrecy

above images courtesy of rene vaile

i cant recall the first time i met rene vaile, it may have been a halloween party - or maybe i'm just remembering the giant cod piece he was wearing... either way it was while ago. he's a super sweet guy, and takes the most beautiful photo's around - with stylist chris lorimer his photo's defined one of our favourite (sadly no longer around) mags 'staple'. he's worked with numerous new zealand designers, and since moving to sydney, a number of australian designers too, creating beautifully off kilter fashion images that have graced the pages of everything from australian vogue to dazed and confused.

as the lovely leah from plaything puts it:

"rene vaile shows a considered yet spontaneous energy within his portraits of friends and travel picture. the infectious imagery leads the viewer into a quiet and romantic place."

SO, we are kinda a whole lot excited about his first solo show at plaything gallery next week, make sure you get down there for the preview on the 29th october from 6pm - 8pm i'll bet ya' 20 bucks it'll be pretty darn amazing. (please note this offer is purely for literary effect only)

preview 29th october from 6pm - 8pm
show running till 14th november, gallery open tuesday - saturday, 11am - 4pm.

press up's

it's 1am time again! yay!!! two of our favourite new zealand designers areez katki and liam from deadly ponies are pictured in the 'young guns' feature showing off their wares, and super duper cuties matt and andrey transform a postweiler hauber sweat into pants in their 'boys don't cry' editorial.

jersey girl

as mentioned the first drop of gary bigeni for spring/summer has made it's way through the door - yay!! and arghhhh it's amazing! tricky pattern cutting manifests itself in liquid silk jersey dresses in magenta that cowl languidly on one side, super fine knits and open jackets feature sleeves that travel continuously around the body, silk singlet dresses feature heavy metal zips on one side, and double dresses can be worn in an endless number of ways.

ah-may-zing.

instore now, and online soon!

we are beside ourselves!

Beside Ourselves from Nick Waterman on Vimeo.

we love a good fashion video - they're the new catwalk dontcha' know?? for spring/summer gary bigeni collaborated with filmaker nick waterman to create this darkly abstract video 'beside ourselves' - also the title of gary bigeni's new collection, which incidentally has just arrived in the country. it should be making it's way through the door any second, so until then, watch this video and check out the drapey, billowing forms that gary does so well - we'll post pics of the new delivery as soon as! enjoy.

13.10.09

dressed to impress

whilst flicking through the pages of the latest tokion magazine (latest by the time it gets to new zealand anyway...) we couldn't help but snap one of our fashion faves chloe sevigny wearing a bernhard willhelm 'georg dress' and looking pretty darn cool if you ask us... and as chance may have it we still have one left... just in case you're wondering... check it out here

7.10.09

special delivery!

gosh! ok, so new zealand fashion week and good old pamela anderson (yes, pamela anderson and designer richie rich were in town!) have been and gone, and in the midst of all that we got bombarded with lots of exciting new things!! yay!! so, uh, yeah, we have just emerged from the haze, updated the web-shop and here we are again...

here's a quick update of what's new - more detail sooooooon!!

the first drop from tv's 'army dreamer's' collection is instore now! a little bit 70's & a little bit militaristic - tv have gone perforation crazy! huge kaftans, crop tee's, slinky floor length dresses and more fitted tee's have been laser cut with tiny square perforations - amazing!

we've long been fan's of carri mundane's (carri mundane aka cassette playa) work - from her work with M.I.A to her giant sonic the hedgehog head wearing models. so we are super happy to be the exclusive stockists of cassette playa in new zealand! for her autumn/winter collection carri has got all nordic death metal on us - with spikey upside down smiley faces, and rune like prints. ace!

one of our favourite little discoveries is hong kong based accessory line hoiming. designed by husband and wife team hoiming fung and baldwin pui, they describe their label as a 'witty luxury brand' - all their pieces are hand stitched, and beautifully off-beat. the bags are killer, and the super cute bat necklaces are a must have.

finnish designer daniel palillo obviously has a great sense of humour, his new collection "i want to believe" is full of melting hearts, giant ying & yangs, and pentacles - think death-metal-raver-alien-abductions. tops are super sized, pants are super skinny and the prints are from the pen of mr. palillo himself. we are fans, it's dark but not up-your-own-arse dark. which we like.

new to children of vision for spring/summer is melbourne based label material by product. designed by susan dimasi and chantal kirby, material by product has a strong reputation in europe, championed by fashion figureheads such as diane pernet of influential fashion blog 'a shaded view of fashion'. their signature look comprises of elegant draped jersey tunics and dresses with an impeccable attention to finish, with hand stitched bindings, hand printed pointillist like patterns and flattering little tucks and pleats. exquisite!

our favourite parisian fashion activist is back with her new collection “sister’s of mercy’. vintage tee shirts are ripped apart and re-constructed into sweeping tunics, gorgeous felted wool bolero’s feature cascades of thick fringing, and oversized tops are slashed to skeletal proportions. Its fun, dark, and surprisingly wearable.

blog angst

courtesy of teen angst

bless! we just got a mention on one of our favourite blogs 'teen angst' - the lovely cox rated us as one of  her 5 favourite online stores from around the world (general cucumber was another, which we are rather fond of too ;-) ).

thanks! we love you too!!

boxing clever

we love boxes!! brown cardboard boxes covered with all kind of exotic paperwork, and filled with excitement from all over the globe!! yay for boxes!! in the last few days we've had our first drop from andrea crews with super clever vintage tee's pulled apart and re-constructed into voluminous tunics, fringed bolero's and tees printed with "africa is the future".

makin jan ma's new collection "give me some deep water" features unisex striped oversized tees some featuring zips that cinch in the body and others feature another half a tee and an extra sleeve leaving fabric that can knotted or swept around like a scarf - as well as super sized zippered shirts and printed leggings.

new for spring/summer is melbourne label material by product, championed by influential blogger/film maker diane pernet, this label features stunning hand finished silk tunics with drippy ties, and printed neckpieces, and the most delicious leather jacket ever... soft, and washed down with a wool jersey lining.

more details on material by product soon!

all the above is in store now, and online soon!

eeeeeeee!! too exciting!!

press up's

yay!! the new 1am is out!! and awwwww it's the 'best friends issue'!! we heart 1am big time, and they have veeeeery nicely included us in their online store round up, and popped a jimmy d sheer silk tee on the lovely elena... the poor emma gleason over at rag pony blog incurred the wrath of blogger with some of these pics so we popped some little crosses over her bits to preserve her modesty...
