the lovely folks at apparel magazine were nice enough to ask us to think of one garment coming for next season that we were pretty excited about - how could we go past this bernhard willhelm dress?? click to enlarge the article, and a huge thanks to apparel for the very kind words!
the new issue of remix is out and features a shoot styled by atip w. with some pretty spectacular shots of romance was born and bernhard willhelm. the issue also features a 3d cover and editorial inside we've been snapped sitting in the store rocking our 3d glasses a couple of times now... check it out!!
before christmas we were lucky enough to receive an invitation to the opening of 'bernhard willhelm & jutta kraus' an exhibition at the groninger museum in the netherlands, unfortunately a quick trip to the netherlands wasn't on the cards but thankfully we spied a few pics on diane pernet's blog a shaded view on fashion.
jutta kraus and bernhard willhelm started the label ten years ago, and the exhibition is a survey of the over 30 collections they have created in this time - both women's and men's collections. we are particularly in love the insanity of the displays...
whilst flicking through the pages of the latest tokion magazine (latest by the time it gets to new zealand anyway...) we couldn't help but snap one of our fashion faves chloe sevigny wearing a bernhard willhelm 'georg dress' and looking pretty darn cool if you ask us... and as chance may have it we still have one left... just in case you're wondering... check it out here
yahhhh!! just through the door is a big ole' box of insanity from bernhard willhelm's new northern hemisphere winter collection, and it's freakin' awesome!! unisex, oversized tee's are emblazoned with "i'm a pretty good person" and dripping graffitied smiley faces, cotton dresses feature 3 types of checks cleverly panelled together, a stunning black dress with a lurex stripe billows around the body with intricate tucks and gathers, and super cool bright silk dresses that drip and drape around the body. ah-may-zing!
i cant find a video of this show from paris, but here is a super cute interview with diane pernet from back in the day where he concocts her a meal from tulle, and polka dots and explains to her how he knows everyone that buys his pieces - i think this childlike wonderment and his tactile approach to creating clothes is still very apparent in his work. genius.
do you believe in love at first sight?? i do... the first piece of bernhard willhelm that I ever saw was a sweater dress with the word 'plop' emblazoned across it - plop!! jesus!! it was the perfect antidote to all the logo'd, serious, minimalist fashion that was going on at the time, and was just, well, completely absurd!
we are excited and super privileged to be the only store in auckland to carry bernhard's clothing line. as a teaser here is bernhard talking about his spring/summer collection, what he likes to do first thing in the morning, and playing drums in berlin... the collection featured will be in store when we open in mid march. stay tuned.
(ps. during the show check out the full-on outfit in the front row... wowsh!!)
