totes babes

you may have noticed on this blog that since opening we've asked each designer a few questions about themselves to get to know them a little better. ya' know, questions about their collections, what they'd do on a day off, what they know about new zealand, who they would shoot, shag or marry, etc. we also ask them to complete the sentence 'i had a vision and my vision was...'

we've had some pretty great answers, so we decided to start the 'tote project'. we asked incredible auckland based artist erin forsyth to interpret and illustrate these answers and we'll continue to release new totes through out the year each with different designers response to the question 'i had a vision and my vision was...'

the first two designers we've released are new zealand designer jimmy d (duh! of course!) and our favourite finnish prince of darkness, daniel palillo.

each tote bag is $45.00, made out of 100% cotton, in a sturdy cotton drill with robust tape handles. one side features erin's illustration and the other has the children of vision logo.

and hey! it's christmas! so gift it, or sling it over your shoulder and chuck all your christmas shopping in it!

wowsh! there's been a whole lotta online love of late!! the lovely queen michelle at one of our favourite blogs kingdom of style features jimmy d's new collection (due in-store february/march) and describes children of vision as 'incredible' - awww bless!! the stunning elena zubielevitch is featured in the latest issue of online mag 1am, photographed by matt benns, elena is dripping in jimmy d aw11 (thana silk dress, nighthawk bra, and venom knickers to be precise). and super cute website michi embarks on a round up of auckland's best stores and takes a visit to children of vision.

the recently opened douglas + bec is one of our favourite destinations for amazing furniture, accessories and one off gifts - we visited last week and left with one of their incredible white angle lamps... but that's a whole different story...

the lovely owners rebecca snelling and paul dowie were just featured in the latest issue of home new zealand - rebecca wears the jimmy d 'remains' silk shirt dress and paul wears an andrew mark smith 'duo' shirt, and they wear 'em mighty well...

rebecca also divulges that she's (not so) secretly coveting a deadly ponies mr. sleep over from children of vision.

every issue metro magazine runs a feature entitled 'dress code' where they compare varying styles of dress within the same occupation - with fashion week rapidly approaching this months issue featured fashion designers.

book it

mitchell oakley smith's stunning 'fashion - australian & new zealand designers' has just been released and is groaning with sumptuous images and beautifully written interviews with leading australasian designers - children of vision faves material by product and gary bigeni are both featured as well as my own label jimmy d... yay!

the book is widely available through retail stores and galleries through out new zealand, australia, and internationally, including such prestigious locations as the tate in london and centre pompidou in paris - alternatively grab a copy here.

it's easy to forget on your daily trawl of the blogs that they are in-fact an amazing way to connect with like minded people - blogs after all are a small yet intimate glimpse into someones world, where they are willing to share their current obsessions, thoughts and beliefs. 'stop it right now' was recently introduced to us, and we were immediately smitten with her killer style, her love of ann-sofie back (coming to children of vision this season), and her dry sense of humour. after getting in contact she was lovely enough to do a little write up about the store, and my label 'jimmy d' and the new spring/summer collection due in-store in august. awwww bless!!

peaches 'n dream

not many people could pull of wearing this mesh leotard by itself, but i'm sure we can all agree that peaches aint your average lady. layers of motor cross padding were removed until peaches was strutting on stage twirling the long silk ties of this jimmy d 'junction' body suit, and may i say looking mighty hot...

yay!! the new 1am is out!! and awwwww it's the 'best friends issue'!! we heart 1am big time, and they have veeeeery nicely included us in their online store round up, and popped a jimmy d sheer silk tee on the lovely elena... the poor emma gleason over at rag pony blog incurred the wrath of blogger with some of these pics so we popped some little crosses over her bits to preserve her modesty...

wow! what a week, and what a little cherry on the top of our press icecream this is!! the shoot is the outcome of the dream team of photographer david shields and stylist chris lorimer and the COVER features jimmy d custom cardboard frames, and a new spring/summer 2010 style, the 'fracture dress' - which is also pictured inside. there's also a killer shot of commence's rhiannon neck pieces which are instore now.

ya' know i think this whole internet thing is really gunna catch on, and obviously the guys at 1am agree 'cos they have taken their super cool print mag 1am and made it all, uh, digital! the pages flip like it's analogue counterpart, but it has super powers! (almost all the content has clickable links) 

issue 5 is looking hotter than ever, there's a stunning feature on children of vision (which also happens to be the theme of the mag), and loads of our designers featured:

every month we look forward to getting the email letting us know that a new pagesonline issue is out - it's the digital equivalent of getting a new air freighted mag in the post, eagerly tearing open the shrink wrapped plastic, and preparing to absorb everything it contains. and issue 63 'fracture' is a bumper issue...

our favourite davids (amazing photographer david shields and super stylist david bonney) joined forces on 'the little prince' complete with some custom cardboard accessories (look familiar??) from, well... me! and featuring some winter jimmy d pieces.

if you want to re-create those jimmy d custom frames you'll need some snips, some plasticine and a big person to help...

lydia cowpertwait has wandering eyes - eye's that seek out the most sartorially aware aucklander's for her blog the flaneur. check it out!! we are particularly keen on the picture of sex on toast (or in fur) ms. rosie rigger from charlie ash rocking the jimmy d harness singlet (incidentally instore now) at the paradise party a few weeks ago... but we are a tad biased.
