i'm feeling twine

erin forsyths installation "1/2 a cup of milk" has taken over the store, a huge fleshy rambling installation comprising of thrifted and donated garments, twine, a mist generator and lush foliage. it's a futuristic garden of earthly (and unearthly) delights - and is it just me or is it equal parts dreamily romantic, and disturbingly tumour like? however you look at it, it's a sight to behold.

the installation is in instore for over a month culminating in a closing party on the 18th of march. during this time the piece will continue to evolve - please feel free to contribute your own white/cream/pink garments, bed sheets, etc.! and become a piece of the work yourself.

check out more of erin forsyth's work here and visit children of vision any time up until the 18th of march to see this beautiful piece of work.

special k

we love karangahape road, the sleaze, the galleries, the good coffee, even the bums are (mostly) friendly. for us k road has the more character and 'soul' than any other part of auckland. and urbis magazine obviously agree, doing a large feature on the iconic street, and name dropping saint kevin's arcade as being "arguably the beating heart of k road" and plonking in a nice big pic of our store. we wouldn't wanna be anywhere else. thanks urbis!

when darkness comes

the dark room has come and gone - thanks to everyone that came and took part in the crazyness!! above are some pics of the store in it's dark room incarnation, we kinda liked embracing the seediness of k road for a few days, rockin' the red lights and wrapping everything in black latex-like plastic - in fact our mannequin may just stay like that for a little black longer we can't quite bring ourselves to unwrap her yet...

watch out for another dark room opening in the future!

page turner

images courtesy of pagesonline

every month we look forward to getting the email letting us know that a new pagesonline issue is out - it's the digital equivalent of getting a new air freighted mag in the post, eagerly tearing open the shrink wrapped plastic, and preparing to absorb everything it contains. and issue 63 'fracture' is a bumper issue...

our favourite davids (amazing photographer david shields and super stylist david bonney) joined forces on 'the little prince' complete with some custom cardboard accessories (look familiar??) from, well... me! and featuring some winter jimmy d pieces.

if you want to re-create those jimmy d custom frames you'll need some snips, some plasticine and a big person to help...

tv is on!

melbourne based designers monika tywanek and ingrid verner's autumn/winter collection 'lucky' is finally here, and it was hellah worth the wait!! a bomber with dino-like spikes, out sized polo necks, shredded 'mum' jeans (mum = high waisted dontcha know?), clever merino dresses with spare arms that can be tied or wrapped around the body, and THE sexiest one shoulder 'toga dress' that would be the perfect party/ball/when & where ever dress. all in a palette of black, tan, coral and acid washed denim. and not to be forgotten is the notoriously fabulous tv trash bag, in black vinyl with yellow handles just like a, er, trashbag.

check out the full collection here and instore now!

makin out

the newest addition to the children of vision family is london based designer makin jan ma. makin was invited to launch the spring/summer '09 collections last week at the super prestigious hong kong store, joyce (think john galliano, vera wang, alexander mcqueen, rei kawakubo, etc!)  with an installation entitled 'dream bigger, live harder, love deeper'.

makin's new collection is in store at children of vision now - largely unisex, with oversized drapey tees, mesh panelling, sloppy hoodies, and an amazing digital galaxy print...

more on makin soon!!
